I think that in a way it was being racist, but maybe the guys were trying to put it in words that the use. It should be heard of why they put that word in stead of african american. But it could have been a lot worser. It depends on the person, i think to an level that it was racits to some and misinterpreted to others. IT all depends on the person!

The article was interesting I think they could have added more information. The letter might have been misinterpreted but i dont think it was. I believe the police officer had no right calling names to anyone. I choose the side of the african american.

think the police were not wrong in writing the e-mails to them anbout their article being racist. it was what they thought about the article. but what happened to the was wrong becuase people desided to flip their words around on the police. so no the police were not wrong in what the did, but what happened to them was.

i don't think that it was meant to be racist cuz i mean he said colored but he didn't say black or actually use any racial comments to hurt anyones feelings.

I think that the man didnt think before he chose his words, but I dont feel that it would be strong enough terms for a person to lose their job. I can see how his choice of words could offend people, but it could have been alot worse if the man was really trying to be racist.

I do not have enough information to chose a particular side.
However I do not think that the detectives were intending to sound racists but they should have been more considerate of their word usage. It is common sense that by using a somewhat derogatory term they may have made themselves appear a little narrow minded. Probably this particular detective grew up in the Midwest and had always heard arfican-americans referred to as "colored people", and most likely he probably thought that it would not be taken offensively. When one hears any term throughout their life it may begin to represent the proper title.
And once again when a term like colored is used it does give the indication of lack in open mindedness and Midwestern ignorance, which if I were the one who was being categorized in such away I would not take it offensive but rather pity the user of the term.
So I do kind of believe that whoever got so caught up in a word is just trying to start shit.

The article didnt give a whole lot of info so its hard to say whether thet were in the wrong or not. Personally i dont like the police, for obvious reasons and they have shown my family in the past that the majority of them are twisted. my grandpa got hit by a cop that ran a stop sign and didnt have lights or siren on. my grandpa was killed instantly. the cop was suspended but later was let back on the force. in being a police you have alot of power, but also alot of responsabilities which most of them ignore.
